I walked into my empty classroom today pleasantly surprised to find it clean and organized. Thank you, self for taking the time to tidy up before you left for break. It helps me think clearer when I have a blank slate to work with.
The first thing I noticed when I walked in was how terribly frigid it was. On cold days the custodians are so kind to turn on the heater in the morning before the teachers come, however, instead of turning on the heat, this person turned on the AIR. So, it was colder IN my classroom than it was outside! So, I turned on the heat. Blew into my cupped hands trying to thaw them out, then decided to hide out in Mary's room while my classroom defrosted.
I've always wondered why days like today are called staff development. How developed can we get in one day? There is usually a meeting that only applies to grades 3-5. Which means I waste about an hour and half listening to irrelevant information, when I could be in my feezing classrrom doing something productive. Lesson plans aren't going to write themselves.
I lost my wallet. Well, misplaced it. Which made for an awkward moment when the other 2nd grade teachers on my team wanted to go out to eat for lunch. My team is awesome...we had a great lunch at Bob Evan's. I owe Ofelia $10. And a less than mediocre waitress is one dollar richer thanks to Judith. She deserved nothing more than $1! I love the girls I work with.
After returning to school I had 35 minutes to work in my room before the next meeting (in which I nodded off a few times). Learned nothing new. No AHA moments. Am I developed now?
Made a few copies, then stood in my classroom staring at the 19 empty desks lined up facing a blank dry erase board.
19 precious souls look to me.
Sigh.
Help again, Lord. I need your wisdom with these babies.
Teachers made such an impact on my life. Help me do the same.
I missed my baby boys, and was happy to get big hugs and kisses when I came home today. I'm a lucky girl.
